Hitachi Systems Development Laboratory

Hitachi SDL, for short, is set on a beautiful campus nearby Kawasaki and another campus in Yokohama (actually nearby Totsuka). This is a great place of innovation for the Hitachi group and you can visit their main website here. I have quite a few friends and colleagues at SDL and want to make sure that the community and customer base that follows Hitachi can see what kinds of innovations are going on within Hitachi. SDL has a great service that they provide in the form of interviews with the actual researchers. One researcher I know very well is Takahiro Nakano. This site provides a great view into things that eventually find their way or are already within Hitachi’s storage offerings. From the site you can clearly see that Hitachi has a wide range of innovations to take advantage of and in fact has been able to do that again and again — HiStar and the cooling technologies in the USP-V are strong examples of this. Most interesting recently are some discussions about Autonomous Decentralized Systems and Digital Signatures.
Since I mentioned that the campus is quite beautiful I did want to post the following links which show them campus:
- Spring Scenery —Cherry Blossom— (Photographed: April 2007-2009)

- Early Summer Scenery (Photographed: May-June 2006-2008)
- Autumn Scenery (Photographed: September-November 2006-2007)
- Winter Scenery (Photographed: March 2005)
Note that if you are in Japan during the Cherry Blossom season next year their campus is open to the public. Look me up and I’ll be happy to take you there to meet some of the researchers.
