Turning Data Into Information
by Bill Burns on March 2, 2010
Perhaps the tile of this post should really be titled “The cost of making diamonds from coal.” It’s rare that I will comment on another HDSer’s blog but my colleague Pete Gerr’s blog on Storage for the 31st Century got me thinking.

IBM had a commercial awhile back in which they claimed that by 2020 half of the worlds data would be medical images, now I’m not going to debate the claim as I have been in far too many 450PB+ data centers to be a doubter. The real question we all need to ask is what is this data doing for us and can our care givers really access when they need it?
