In my next look at Hitachi’s innovation capabilities I want to point to another article which is from the Hitachi Review section of the Hitachi R&D portal. This article is less about technical innovation and more about bringing the innovative Hitachi spirit outside of Japan. The author, Dr. Bahadir Gultekin, originally was born in Turkey, but relocated to Japan for graduate studies eventually earning his PhD. in Geographical Information Systems. After his studies he ran into HitachiSoft by chance and was impressed by their mature GIS package. Most recently he has moved back to Turkey and slightly further from R&D work to push the development of Hitachi’s businesses in Turkey. Because of his knowledge of the HitachiSoft GIS package he is focused on getting adapted to the Turkish market specifically focused on assisting in the mining of natural resources. While I’ve summarized a large portion of his article, I encourage you to read it, it is short and sweet.
I also agree with all of his assessments at the end of the article about what Hitachi should be doing to improve its success in the world. Namely, he pointed out being more flexible to dynamic market conditions, and more sensitive to each of the countries, regions or geographies where Hitachi is conducting business. From first hand experience I can also confirm that Hitachi has a deep engineering spirit. This means that while Hitachi might be a bit more conservative in talking about the future, when we deliver something it has passed through the rigor of Hitachi’s engineering discipline. The quality is strong and it does what we say it can do.
