Big Data Analytics for Tomorrow
by Hu Yoshida on Oct 18, 2012
Big Data analytics today has mainly to do with data warehouses, data marts, Hadoop or SAP HANA to support business decisions. Big Data of tomorrow will require expertise in many new areas and handle many different types of data that are driven by the machine generation.
An example of these new types of Big Data analytics is facial recognition, an area where Hitachi has a great deal of experience and has done thorough research. This past March, Hitachi Hokusai demonstrated a new camera technology that can scan days of camera footage instantly and find any face that it has ever recorded. It can scan through 36 million faces per second! It does this by scanning faces as it records and stores them instantly. By scanning through a gallery of pre-indexed faces, one can find a specific face in the footage. . These faces could be correlated back to situations in time where an action or event took place.
Hitachi Hokusai will make this available next year, when it can be deployed as a security device in high traffic areas. Watch this video for a short explanation of the technology.
