Media and Entertainment: Unleash Creativity with Hitachi NAS Platform

by Hu Yoshida on Aug 20, 2012

In my previous post I described the unique Hybrid NAS (network attached storage) controller architecture and the object-based file system in the file module of Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS) and in our Hitachi NAS Platform products. The results of this architecture combined with the automated tiering and high performance of our storage systems, makes this ideal for applications that require high, on-demand performance, the ability to scale quickly, moving from archive storage to active storage, without the cost of over-provisioning.  Nowhere is this more in demand than in the Media and Entertainment industry, where each new production unleashes new and creative renderings, special effects and visual dimensions. Hitachi NAS Platform and HUS technology is helping to empower this creativity.

Most movies, like those in the Harry Potter series, have shots outsourced to multiple VFX post-production studios. The last Harry Potter had two HDS customers (Tippett Studio of Berkeley, California and Double Negative of London, UK) work on VFX shots.

Here is a short 5 minute video that shows some of the recent productions that uses Hitachi NAS Platform technology. This is a stunning video showreel showcasing an example of visual effects.
