HNAS: Now Powered by Hitachi
by Hu Yoshida on Sep 7, 2011
Hitachi and Hitachi Data Systems recognized the value of BlueArc’s technology early on, which has resulted in many customer wins in the very competitive NAS marketplace. What distinguishes Hitachi NAS Platform (HNAS) from others in the industry is its hardware approach to supporting NFS and CIFS, which gives it tremendous performance, scalability, and power saving over appliance-based NAS systems.
As noted by Michael, Hitachi Data Systems has already invested a tremendous amount of effort in the integration of HNAS into our “one platform for all data” strategy, with common management, data protection, and search. HNAS operates as a file virtualization gateway in front of our block virtualization platforms, is integrated with our content platform (HCP) with content aware search through Hitachi Data Discovery Suite (HDDS), and can be monitored through our Hitachi Command Suite of management software. With this move we can expect to see even closer integration with our management systems, not to mention a flawless collaboration of HDS and BlueArc talent.
There is no doubt in my mind that the biggest winners of this acquisition will be the end users. Customers who are challenged with the continued growth of unstructured data will now have access to the powerful combination of HDS enterprise-class reliability, quality and support, with BlueArc’s industry-leading highly scalable, high performance NAS and integrated solutions. Together, HDS and BlueArc provide a single solution that Scales Right in enterprise and vertical markets with the best price performance ratio at offered price points.
Personally, I am overjoyed with this union. After 5 years of tremendous collaboration between two very talented teams, I can only anticipate the market will now see an unmatched combination of reliability, quality, performance, and scalability that is required to handle the growth of Big Data.
BlueArc, we welcome you to the Hitachi family!
