Recently a lot of attention has been given to Capacity Optimization, and there are plenty of solutions to choose from. Compression, dedupe, dynamic tiering, and thin provisioning are those most often mentioned, and each is effective in reducing capacity in their own way. Choosing the right solution is important too—for instance, using dedupe to reduce [...]

Today, September 27, 2011, marks the one-year anniversary of our Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) announcement. VSP has been the most successful product in our history, and according to Roberto Basilio, our VP of Product Management for Storage Hardware, VSP helped us increase the shipment of storage systems by 27%, and nearly quadruple (387%) the capacity [...]

Hitachi and Hitachi Data Systems recognized the value of BlueArc’s technology early on, which has resulted in many customer wins in the very competitive NAS marketplace. What distinguishes Hitachi NAS Platform (HNAS) from others in the industry is its hardware approach to supporting NFS and CIFS, which gives it tremendous performance, scalability, and power saving [...]

A common experience that I run into with virtual server users is the over commitment of modular storage which results in poor performance and outages.
