What It Means to be One of the 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies
by Hu Yoshida on Mar 22, 2011
The Ethisphere Institute recently announced its fifth annual selection of the World’s Most Ethical Companies, highlighting 110 organizations that lead the way in promoting ethical business standards. Hitachi Data Systems is honored to be among the prestigious list of winners.
Ethisphere conducted data analysis on hundreds of companies based on their responses to an initial survey, as well as documents and information researched and requested by Ethisphere to confirm survey responses. Every company then was given an EQ score based on the results of the survey and measured against seven distinct categories. These categories are Corporate Citizenship and Responsibility; Corporate Governance; Innovation that Contributes to the Public Well Being; Industry Leadership; Executive Leadership and Tone from the Top; Legal, Regulatory and Reputation Track Record; and Internal Systems and Ethics/Compliance Program.
This is an independent award and benchmark for the programs we have set in place to ensure that we are an industry leader and employer of choice in a very competitive industry. As a global company selling products throughout the world, one of the challenges is to set up a solid program for ethical behavior and global anti-corruption for direct and indirect operations across multiple geographies and cultures. Compliance training and certification is mandatory for every employee at Hitachi Data Systems to ensure that everyone has a common understanding of the company’s position on ethical behavior.
We believe that ethical behavior is good business. It enables us to be a trusted partner to our customers and a trusted employer to our employees. Corporate citizenship and responsibility is also important to us. During the economic downturn, our focus was on helping our customers make more efficient use of their existing assets through storage virtualization rather than sell additional capacity. Also during this downturn HDS was one of the few companies that did not do a reduction in force. During this time, our employees rated us one of the best places to work for two years in a row in the San Francisco Business Times.
This recognition by Ethisphere is another way to validate our focus on being an excellent partner and a great employer.
Way to go!
