VSP wins Prestigious iF Product Design Award

by Hu Yoshida on Jan 31, 2011

Since we announced Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) at the end of September 2010, the product already has won over many new and existing Hitachi customers. Recently, we were notified that VSP also won the prestigious iF Product Design Award for 2011. This selection was based on clearly defined criteria including environmental sustainability, architectural design quality, and overall functionality. The formal award ceremony will take place at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany this spring.

hitachi-command-suiteWhile VSP does not have “cool” flashing lights like our competitors’ products, it was designed to be more scalable, more reliable, more environmentally friendly, and simpler to use. VSP’s bezel consists of finely designed vents that allow maximum airflow to our dense drive modules that can hold 128 x 2.5 inch Small Form Factor drives in a 19 inch x 13 U high rack enclosure. The low speed fans, which are designed to pull in air from the front and push it out the back, are so quiet that customers find it hard to tell if VSP is powered on.

While VSP might not look like much on the outside to some, what counts is how it looks through Hitachi Command Suite management software or through our VAAI interfaces to the VMware hypervisor.  Our customers are finding this the best way to look at VSP.

Hi Hu,
I hadn’t realized that VAAI for VSP was already generally available. Heard it was scheduled for Q1 release, but hadn’t seen any notices.

VAAI on VSP went GA last week i believe. Very cool! I still want VAAI on the USP-V though.

Hu, I am not seeing where that shows VAAI support in the USP-V as of yet. Am I missing something? I see (and have first hand knowledge of) support on AMS2500 and VSP. Thanks in advance.

Steven, The way to read the link to see if VAAI is supported is to look for a footnote that calls it out. The USP V will be supported in the near future. We currently support VAAI on our AMS and VSP products.

[...] note, HDS recently announced that its flagship product, the Hitachi VSP, had received a supposedly prestigious iF Product Design Award.  Personally I’d never heard of the award, but don’t let that detract from [...]
