Federal Bailout and Virtualization Economics
by David Merrill on February 11, 2009
Seems like the US government is also looking to cut IT costs, and some interesting results to save money in IT:
- $3.7 billion from open source, a development approach using non-proprietary code
- $13.3B from virtualization, the process of maximizing infrastructure by creating virtual versions of servers, storage devices and network resources
- $6.6B from cloud computing/SaaS, hosting applications as services and delivering via the Internet.
Seems like the feds realize the overwhelming potential in savings from storage (and other) virtualization investments
