Today I would like to thank Anuraag Bhargava, the CIO of Electro-Motive Diesel for his great presentation at Storage Networking World in Orlando this week. The work he’s accomplished for his company is outstanding, and he’s really set a great example of “how it’s done”.
How do you take a compelling IT problem and articulate it into a meaningful solution for the business? Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD), is one of two original equipment manufacturers of diesel-electric locomotives in the U.S. Electro-Motive Diesel designs, manufactures and sells diesel-electric locomotives for all commercial railroad applications.
As you can imagine, they experienced a tremendous amount of data growth, leveraging SAP as a core application, but their storage infrastructure had not kept up, and just one month after Anuraag started at the company, it failed, and many recovery complications followed. There’s a happy ending (yes, it involves Hitachi!), but more importantly this is an example of what so many companies have to deal with and how follow a great example of CIO leadership applied to Business Continuity and storage.
